NEIL FERGUSON
Neil Ferguson writes children’s stories under the pen-name of Bella Galbraith (a nod to his maternal grandmother – also a writer).
Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Neil grew up in rural New Zealand until his teenage years.
He attended Aorere College – more interested in playing rugby than in academic pursuits. Scraping through final exams with grades that enabled him to obtain a bursary, he then attended Auckland University and studied law.
Neil studied classical piano for many years as a child with a spectacular lack of success, but in his early teens took up the guitar with considerable more enthusiasm and enjoyed playing in bands over the course of seversal decades.
After practiicing law for many years, Neil then went to China for 15 years or so to semi-retire and to teach English. It was whilst in China that he started writing songs and drama skits to provide fun and engaging activities to compliment his lessons.
Now residing on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia with his Chinese wife, Neil has adapted some of his songs and drama skits to write children’s stories. It is his great hope that children around the world will have as much fun reading his stories as he did writing them.
In his spare time Neil likes to watch rugby, play guitar, read and write, and cook. He also enjoys travelling to China reasonably frequently to catch up with family and friends and less frequently back to his homeland, New Zealand. Despite having left New Zealand in the 1990s he is still a staunch supporter of the New Zealand national rugby team, the world famous All Blacks.
